Our Lady of Guadalupe Baptism, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is there a baptismal fee?
-
No. On the day of the Baptism, the parents will receive an envelope and you may put your donation there.
Is there a limit to the number of godparents my child can have?
-
Only two godparents' names will be recorded on the baptismal certificate. If you have more than two, the other names will not be recorded on the certificate and they will be considered witnesses.
Do the parents have to be Catholic?
-
At least one parent must be a baptized Catholic and committed to raising the child in the Catholic faith.
Do the parents have to be married by the Catholic church in order for their child to be baptized?
-
No, but parents are welcome to talk to the Pastor or to one of our priests on how they can receive the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony.
Do godparents have to be Catholic?
-
In the case of two godparents:
-
One or both has to be Catholic. One godparent or sponsor is required by Canon Law to be a fully initiated Catholic in good standing. If the godparents are married, their marriage needs to be recognized by the Catholic Church.
-
If the other godparent is not a Catholic, he/she cannot serve as a godparent in a Catholic baptism but only as a Christian witness because godparents are asked to help the parents raise the child in a Catholic faith.
